Redheads and Royalty
My name is sophey I am studying at Southampton Solent University. Our first project brief is Read Heads and Royalty; we will be looking at traditional Elizabethan hair styles and incorporating them into a New Elizabethan look.
I am really looking forward to this project as it looks at many different techniques of hair styles and how they would have done them too.
The main inspiration of this time period was Queen Elizabeth I as she influenced the people of England and Europe to adopt a certain way of how to apply make- up, dressing, and hair.
The main look was, crimped hair/ wigs placed on the head of which the hair line was plucked out as they throughout a higher forehead meant intelligence.
Through this project I will be looking at all their looks, how they did them and my own versions, the hair accessories and the symbolism they wanted to portray. Lets get going!
Areas of Study:
- Introduction to the basic principles of hair styling, postiche application and maintenance
- Health and hygiene and safe working practice within the studio:
- Introduction to hair product awareness
- Introduction to the history and background of period hair and wig styling
- Introduction to textual and visual research sources for hair
- Design development and realisation
