When looking into contemporary padding I first came across this fantastic fashion show by Channel Karl Lagerfeld 2010. It completely in-captivated me with its messy exaggerated heart and flash of silver running through the hair. It is a simple design but can have such an effect, and it really made the runway.

Lots of people these days like to hair padding in their hair for a bun, massive or small here are some examples below. This is my sisters hair, its 1950 but just an example of a contemporary bun.
